First Day of School

This is a very exciting day for Cambodian families! Not every child in Cambodia gets to go to school therefore education is extremely valued. Some children might be scared to leave their parents, but most children will be extremely excited for the opportunity to go school. As a teacher you have to create an interesting classroom for your children. The first time you see your Cambodian classroom, you might feel a since of emptiness. Make this your classroom! This your chance to decorate and get your children excited about learning! The children of Cambodia need a place to feel a sense of belonging, a place to express themselves, and a place to feel safe and loved.

Create an Interesting Classroom

Create a Sense of Belonging

Decorate your classroom with bright colors and add a few colorful plants to add warmth. If possible, paint the walls in blue and green. Line your bulletin boards with newsletters, announcements, and artwork. On the walls have children’s creations displayed at eye level, in addition to family pictures. This provides a sense of belonging to children and their families. A decorated environment provides parents a sense of welcoming and fosters family participation.Every student should have their own individual cubby to store their personal belongings in. Label each cubby with the students name, picture, and maybe post one interesting fact. The cubbies provide a private place for each child to feel a sense of belonging.
